The road

By Sina Oshaghi

The villages the highway forgot

The new road saved an hour and removed everything worth stopping for.

Every time a route is straightened, somewhere loses its through-traffic. The tea houses go first, then the workshop that would have helped you, then the reason anyone stayed.

I take the old alignment when there is one. It costs time and returns the country the highway was built to skip.
